This lesson is a 5‑week Bible study on how God forms a people and establishes God’s Kingdom through a series of covenants that move the story from creation to Christ.
- Week 1 (Universal / Creation–Noah): Read Genesis 1–11 as a movement from order to disorder and back again. Explore whether covenant language can apply to Adam/creation, then study the Noahic covenant (Gen 6–9) as God’s unconditional commitment to preserve and restore creation.
- Week 2 (Ancestral / Abraham): Follow the patriarchs as “sojourners” (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob). Study the Abrahamic covenant (Gen 12, 15, 17)—descendants, land, and blessing—highlighting God’s unilateral faithfulness (Gen 15) and the covenant sign moving from circumcision to a deeper “circumcision of the heart.”
- Week 3 (National / Moses–Sinai): Re-tell the Exodus as way out, way through, way in. See the Mosaic covenant (Exo 19–24) as God restoring nearness/presence (tabernacle), forming Israel into a kingdom of priests and a holy nation, and setting a pattern that anticipates a greater “new exodus.”
- Week 4 (Messianic / David + Jeremiah 31): Trace Israel’s kings (Saul, David, Solomon) and the rise/fall that leads to exile. Study the Davidic covenant as the Abrahamic promises taking a kingdom/royal form (house, throne, everlasting kingdom), and introduce typology through Jeremiah 31’s promise of a New Covenant.
- Week 5 (New Covenant / Jesus): Present Jesus as the fulfillment: New King + New Exodus + New Creation. Connect Jesus’ baptism, cross, burial, resurrection, and the Lord’s Supper to covenant renewal and fulfillment, showing how all previous covenants culminate in the blood-sealed New Covenant and a discipleship life of “The Way” (already/new creation now, not yet/full restoration later).
Overall theme: God’s covenants show both continuity and development—God’s faithful pledge creates the covenant reality, and through each stage God shapes a covenant people until everything finds its fulfillment in Christ.
